My Trip to Reno/Lake Tahoe

I don't usually stray too far from home, so when Mom asked me to go to Reno I was hesitant to accept. I was torn with what to do. On one hand, it sounded like a great trip, but on the other, I felt guilty leaving my husband and son at home on their own. But my husband, being the wonderful man he is, encouraged me to go. I am so glad he did. I had a wonderful time! Reno is kind of a dirty little town but Lake Tahoe is fabulous. There was 3 feet of snow on the ground the day we went but it was beautiful.

Shawna and I don't gamble like Mom and Scott, so we took little day trips on our own. One day we walked down to the River Front and watched movies. I especially liked Definitely, Maybe. Another day we took a bus to the mall. You learn a lot from public transportation. I was very happy to see my car when I got home. The mall was not as big as the Fayette Mall but I got some bargains to take home to my teenage son. He thought it was Christmas again.

The last night we were in Reno was the best. We had dinner at this fancy-smancy steak house. We were like Beverly Hillbillies at the steak house. It was different than any place I have ever been. I was a little surprised when the waiter appeared and said he was going to clean my palette. I had no idea what he was talking about. He set in front of us small champagne glasses with a melon baller size scoop of lemon sorbet. Then he poured about 2 ounces of champagne on top of it. I later found out that the champagne was Christal and I understand that is about $200.00 a bottle. This was very tasty. I wouldn't mind having my palette cleansed again.

But that wasn't the only surprise. After having our palettes cleansed, we were served a delicious prime rib with new potatoes. I was stuffed when the waiter asked about dessert, so I said "no, thank you". As we were waiting for the check, the waiter brought warm towels so we could wash our hands and he brought another steaming dish and set it on the table. Imagine our surprise when we found chocolate truffles in the dish. They were awesome.

The best part of going away was coming home. When I got home there was a beautiful vase of fresh cut flowers and a love note on the kitchen table from my husband. Unfortunately, it was his night to work Bingo for the baseball team, so he wasn't home when I got there. However, Zach was home and gave his Mom a big old hug. He helped me bring in my luggage and we caught up on his love life. It's almost as good as a soap opera. The best part was that night when Steve got home and got in bed with me and put his big old paw over me. I knew all was right with the world again.

P.S. Did I mention this whole trip was free? Mom and Scott are high rollers, so this trip was a gift to them. All I paid for were the gifts I brought back to my family. I like living the high life.

Looks like you had a wonderful time on your trip. It is always nice to get away, and even nicer to come back home!
